Pruning

Folder:
Exploding Hearts

I cut away all the dead branches

and pulled off the dry brown leaves.

The shape left behind is bent and twisted

and scarred, like what's left of me.

I added more dirt, and water.

And now I wait and see.

Will it grow, or die?

And will I?

catching up on all that I've

catching up on all that I've missed lately, life is a whirlwind, and I'm happy I caught this one, and the others that fill your page.

Life is good, and I hope yours, and the little plant that could, finally did.

Welcome back.

Update

The poor plant that inspired this poem is still alive, but barely.  The good news is we have a clinical diagnosis, aphids.  Treatment is ongoing.  Unfortunately, more pruning will be necessary.  I will let our dear avocado plant know that you all are keeping it in your thoughts and prayers.

I'm doing better, myself.  :)

If this poem had been written

If this poem had been written in the stiumbling words of a lesser poet, the metaphor would be trite or maudlin.  But in your words, deployed with skill and discretion, it releases its full power.
