In the midst of waking up

From a never-ending dream.

I take a step back and look

How nothing is as it seems.



I fold my two hands over

And cup my ear to the door.

I listen for a sigh a whisper

As if my heart needs more.



There's no sound of you in the darkness

A ringing echo fills my ear

But I have this feeling this knowing

That you were somewhere near.



I breathe a breath in relief

I slip my hands away

Another day has by

Since you have gone astray.



Where does this leave me, I don't know

Only time holds the key

And in due time I will know

What it is, it's meant to be.
