Psychology of relationships

Psych Out

Author's Notes/Comments:

Kids today listen to popular music and watch the rap videos on TV. They live in a world of flamboyant portrayals and false images. They watch reality shows like "Keeping up with the Kardashians", where wealth and fame and selfish satisfaction are presented as a model to follow. Kids have no yardstick by which to measure or even comprehend what they are viewing. The kids have no positive role model to follow. No one is teaching them anything.

Young girls walk into a school environment where they are surrounded by predators. They know nothing about relationships. They no nothing about hidden intent or what a boy's end game may be. They are open to any suggestion or influence or invitation. They may foolishly follow along behind the first boy who shows them any attention.

This rap poem is my attempt to talk to these girls in their own language. I am using ebonics and common vernacular found on the streets and in rap videos. I hope my message gets through as a warning, as an insight into the psychology of relationships, to let them know that some boys may not appear as they really are. I am trying to raise a young girl's awareness, to help her see what is going on.
