Psych Out

Psych Out

"I say what I say on time to the beat,

You lookin' like the fool I been hoping to meet,

My A.K.A rapper name, they call me 'Black Cupid',

I prey on the weak and the young and the stupid."

"If you listen to me, I'm gonna break it on down,

Psyching you out like a clueless clown,

Defenseless and senseless, but you be lookin' so good,

I'll be your new Daddy from the inner city 'hood!"

"I'm the wolf in the story 'bout Little Bo Peep,

I know what I like and it's that littel white sheep,

All I gots to do is to lead her astray,

Don't have to take her if she give it away."

"Girl, after all, we be all the same,

colors don't matter in a player's game,

So don't listen to what your papa may say,

When I say so, we goin' all the way!"

"When I say yes, you never say no,

You gonna be my extra easy 'ho',

Now do what I say and it ain't even funny,

Pimpin' you like I do is how I make my money!"

"I'm the wolf in the story about Little Bo Peep,

I know what I like and it's that little white sheep,

All I gots to do is to lead her astray,

Don't have to take her if she give it away."

"Yes'm, I love you baby, didn't I done told you dat?

But stayin' witch you ain't where it's at,

I know you be talking 'bout being knocked up,

but I'm gonna knock you out if you don't shut up."

"Now I can't be bothered with you all the time,

I got to deal on the corner and make what's mine,

So call somebody and get signed up,

Don't be botherin' me and wakin' me up!"

"I'm the wolf in the story 'bout Little Bo Peep,

I know what I like and it's that little white sheep,

All I gots to do is to lead her astray,

Don't have to take her if she give it away."

"So fall right into that welfare line,

A bridge card for food and we be feelin' fine,

And we want some of that section 8 rent,

and ask you mama where dat check she sent!"

"I'm a really sorry, baby, but I can't stay true,

I need me some bitches ain't boring like you,

I'll be out late again so don't wait up,

'cause I'm a real ghetto player and that's what's up!"

"Im the wolf in the story 'bout Little Bo Peep,

I know what I like and it's that little white sheep,

All I gots to do is to lead her astray,

Don't have to take her if she give it away."

"The shopping cart wheel must be broken or somethin',

It making that noise and the baby be bumpiin',

Bed bugs back of my butt be itchin',

All you be doin' lately is crying and bitchin'."

"I say what I say but I can't say it no mo',

See you later, baby, 'cause it's time to go,

What's wrong witch you, you seem all helter-skelter,

Let me get you that number for the homeless shelter."

"Im the wolf in the story 'bout Little Bo Peep,

I know what I like and it's that little white sheep,

All I gots to do is to lead her astray,

Don't have to take her if she give it away."

Author's Notes/Comments:

Kids today listen to popular music and watch the rap videos on TV. They live in a world of flamboyant portrayals and false images. They watch reality shows like "Keeping up with the Kardashians", where wealth and fame and selfish satisfaction are presented as a model to follow. Kids have no yardstick by which to measure or even comprehend what they are viewing. The kids have no positive role model to follow. No one is teaching them anything.

Young girls walk into a school environment where they are surrounded by predators. They know nothing about relationships. They no nothing about hidden intent or what a boy's end game may be. They are open to any suggestion or influence or invitation. They may foolishly follow along behind the first boy who shows them any attention.

This rap poem is my attempt to talk to these girls in their own language. I am using ebonics and common vernacular found on the streets and in rap videos. I hope my message gets through as a warning, as an insight into the psychology of relationships, to let them know that some boys may not appear as they really are. I am trying to raise a young girl's awareness, to help her see what is going on.
