The Cracked Mask

Never let them see your pain,

Put up your mask and hide inside,

Though there are scars on the very face,

That you hide behind.

The red tears that flow from the mask,

Only hint at the pain that lives inside,

I mean, is it just to much to ask,

To just take a break and bask?

To just bask in love and friendship,

The things that this heart is so deprived,

That caused so much hurt and pain,

The very things this heart has survived.

Just like a drop of water is to a dying plant,

It could bring back the joy and be rid of this disguise,

Maybe it could restore the life that once lived inside,

Or is it just better to let it wither and die?

Some say 'Yes, let them thrive!',

The sounds of their voices fall on deaf ears,

Others say 'No, you shouldn't even be alive!',

They're voices are so clear, you hear them year after year.

Like sticks and stones their words fly,

They break through the mask you've raised,

Striking the heart that resides inside,

Until there's nothing left, and you're left feeling dazed.

You've walked this path for so long now,

Breaking the horizon, now the end's within sight,

All the weight leaves your shoulders, you no longer have to bow,

No more words of hate make their way into the light.

The mask crumbles and falls,

It's no longer needed, it no longer has a job,

There's no one left to hide within its comforting walls,

Because the only thing left is a heart reduced to a blob.

Tears of joy spread across your skin,

There is no more fear, there's nothing left to dread,

All of the unhappiness escaping from within,

But something's wrong, the tears that stain your skin are ruby red.

More people than you and I can ever know can relate to this poem, and that in itself is sad.

The mask the mask!! Resonates

The mask the mask!!

Resonates with a very long ago past!!

The mask of hiding one's pain

Is the mask of chemical restrain,

Which so many use to this day,

For old, worn, and frayed,

Replaced with honest authenticity,

Until something feels wrong inside,

Then my only recourse is to speak...

     ...and never ever hide!!!

...and he asked her, "do you write poetry? Because I feel as if I am the ink that flows from your quill."

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "
