Empty

there are times when walking away holds you still

when each measured step just doesn’t seem to rhyme

and the click of your footsteps only splashes tears

knowing any answered prayers are only sins in disguise

and you stumble through life as vanity swallows you whole

hoping when it ends somehow mercy comes your way

gazing callously ahead as yesterday’s burn into ashes

forgetting where and when you last sold your soul

then you wonder why no angels sing sad at your demise

while begging God for his forgiveness, knowing it’s just a bribe

with tears that are now real you face the hollow of your life

and regret that you never held love anywhere inside

Grim, Excellent and..

I love this line: "while begging God for his forgiveness, knowing it’s just a bribe". The art of prayer and repentence driven by desparation and no where else to turn. Very tragic and harsh is the scene and reality of Empty, as it really is.
