Diamond (Remnants)

Folder:
The Present

Erase these charcoal drawings

Why did I have to mess with what wasn’t broken

Which if left alone would have been so beautiful

Instead the remnants of a future diamond

Have dusted my heart with what could have been

Should have been love

Should have been right

I guess I was wrong

Before I was right

Now I know that the future is what you make it

I know I had to figure it out on my own

And it must have been hard for you to watch me

Turn from everything you taught me about love

But doesn’t everyone have to find out who they are

Before they know they are everything they should be

Should have been love

Should have been right

I guess I was wrong

Before I was right

Now I know that the future is what you make it

Life’s not about holding the right cards

It’s not even about how you play the ones you hold

It’s about knowing that someone else out there

Holds the ones that you’re missing

Should have been love

And  someday it will be

Should have been right

And someday it will be

I now know that the future is what you make it

And how you see it when you’re wrong

So someday you can make it right
