Mascara Stained

Seems that each time she returns to feeling fine,

He does something to cross the line

Sometimes minimal, but unexplained actions

Manages to provoke in her a monstrous reaction

The tears start flowing down her rosy cheeks,

What's buried inside she tries to seek

He looks back at her mascara-stained face

Yet he shows no signs of emotion, not one trace

Upon herself, she inflicts physical pain

To force herself to filter this thunderous rain

Who ever knew a tragic love could be

In an instant altering from delight to misery

Expectations once set high, are now set low

So troubling to rise up swift just to hit a plateau.

For the time being, she'll bandage her broken soul

Praying that the cycle will finally come to a close.
