Close Enough

Folder:
Unsortables

A hard shell, walls too thick,

a cold heart encased in stone.

Betrayed by those she loved,

hurt by those once trusted,

no one can get past her barriers.

She shows cold indifference,

masks her emotions without thought.

No one will ever get close again,

close enough to see past her mask,

close enough to hurt her again.

She hides behind her anger,

refusing to accept help or affection.

No one truly knows her,

can tell truth from the lies,

can see past the cold exterior.

Telling herself she needs no one,

that she's just fine alone.

She keeps them all at a distance,

refusing to let anyone care about her.

She doesn't cry,

no, she refuses that weakness.

She trusts no one,

confides in no one.

Because no one's close enough to look into her eyes,

close enough to see she's not as tough,

as cold as she seems to be.
