Hummingbird

I sit upon the splintered salty stair

The moon is blossomed blue

I hold onto my knees and pray

My body is shaken through

And the broken sound of breathing is becoming more

It's ragged in the lungs

My teeth they chatter blamelessly

As the darkness touches tongue

I run along

I'll never grasp

What has brought me here

I hold onto my chest and pace

And though I try, I'll never keep it there

Your shadow hits the stairwell

You've masked your footsteps too well

I thought it might've been a tasteless wind

I think it might've been

I rest my eyes

I'll never touch

What visions I've called up

In the holy moonlight

Struck with dumb exclamations

The lips that move are tonight

Something about it so precious

Till I lay my head upon the hands of god

I'll lay in wait for the morning to horizon

Till I find my cup overflowing

I'll lay in wait of double blessing

You'll never find the place of resting

If the spirits come with no testing

And now my demons and I

And now my demons and I
