Once Young -- Now Old

I dislike it somewhat, but there are advantages, too,
in the advancing of the seasons.
They do take much, but I can determine
what I take of what they leave behind.
Colors have changed, plants have turned.
Taking thought, anytime, out of my memory
I can make passed things real again.
Soft hands plighting, promising blended hearts.
Marvelous moments of wonderful silence,
together in the same thought, smiling.
Little anonymous treasures
given and taken as secrets forever.
How could anyone younger than we are
know of such true happiness?
The Young could not imagine
wealth such as this!
To them we may appear to be plodding,
but we are expectantly monitoring every millimeter in a single step --
and relishing the wearing-out of our shoes -- on Life's by-ways.
We know where the leaves will go when they fall as we prepare to save those special ones for us
in a press-book album, or preserved in wax.
We also know better than Youth what is the raw material of poetry --
it is the same as Life.
We must live so as to let none of God's blessing be wasted,
nor any of His Life or Inspiration.
I cannot and dare not try to stop Time's passing;
I flow with it, and Time flows freely through me.
And I am the power that preserves in my heart
Life's splendor, Life's joy and beautiful dream.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Think. And you are just as young as you care to be.

This is wonderful stuff ...

and oddly I think more relevant to younger people than the senior generation . And the best thing I liked is the underlying theme about enjoying the little moments in the present .

Great Stuff , Sir !!! Hat's off !!
