RESIDUE

These granite chips all over this floor;

these ruts that lead in from the door;

this dust still permeating this air;

these chisels & mallets lying everywhere;

this young boy sweeping up this place;

these plashes, sweat-drops fallen from the artist's face;

these things here that are NOT, but once were;

these parts he removed, no longer there;

his ART is gone, somewhere without;

these works within, they still lie about.

All this, which we could've seen years ago,

ALL OF THIS, even this, is still

MICHAELANGELO.

Author's Notes/Comments:

In our lives, we create, & we also remove.  What is not "The Statue" is still mute evidence of us, THE ARTIST.  The parts we chisel off,  the portion of our pallet untouched, the vocabulary of Love & Life which will be muted forever in our narrow, eternal house....these are as much US as the greatest works we'll ever create.  What is left in YOUR pile of dust??  Mon coeur.

A very emotive and profound work, Teddy.
Indeed, the bit remnants of a master sculptor's are still part of a wholesome beauty... just as a bar of silence in a score still belongs to the overall beauty of musical harmony.
