split the ocean

You’ll never know what I need

how I wrap you along the outside

of all the circuses in my mind

Rain on me

in these half-full sunsets

so I can’t keep something that lasts longer than my heartbeat

so I can’t keep the snowstorm that threatens to burst from you

You’re a stubborn lantern in my head

but even at midnight I

I open my eyes and take a breath

and pour a glass of milk and my cells divide

and without warning

the ceiling shakes
