The Silence Of War!

Suddenly, silence!!!

Deafening, frightful silence

for he who once knew the sounds of war,

the thunder of bombs,

the cannons' roar!

Now,

lying quietly in repose,

no longer troubled

or frightened

or shocked by shells,

his hearing mute

to all farewells.

Staring, with lifeless eyes,

at a deadly sun, its stifling

heat not realized.

His crimson life has ebbed,

and now...

Silence!!!

You and I share the same sentiments on the viet Nam War. My poems Pawns and One Less Than Twenty have a similar theme. Well written. Expresses the thoughts of many. It's not the soldiers who did the fighting, the killing and the dying who have blood on their hands. It is the politicians who used it for political gain.
