burning letters in a wading pool

"hey chica! how are you? i am ok... NOT!"

this is for everytime you made me

feel like i wasen't worth it

"hey sexy...i love you"

this is for everytime you never meant that

"hey girl... we should hang"

this is for every "friend" i've racked up

this is for the worlds worst first date

this is for my first kiss being from truth or dare

this is for all your hate

this is for one and a half months too long

this is for all your stupid pregnancy scares

this is for all of your fake suicide attempts

you preformed so well for attention

this is for letting pain hurt like it does

this is for you 'nuff said

this is for all the stupid fries you bought me

this is for ever thinking you were the only one for me

this is for every friend i've had to comfort

this is for having to be comforted

this is for ever thinking i would find "the one" in high school

this is for high school boys

this is for every time you made me cry

this is for every waste of a dance i've had

this is for every girl who's ever had her heart broken

this is in honor of every guy we've

made friends with along the way

and will eventually lose

this is for love being a 4 letter word

this is for tearing us apart

and for bringing us back together

this is for knowing what it is to burn

and for burning

every living memory

of you

in a wading pool

in my backyard

at 8:00

with my best friend

this is for the future

it can only get better from here

Author's Notes/Comments:

my best friend lindsey and i sat in my backyard recreaing the ya ya sisterhood... by burning all the stupid letters i save from all the stupid people that have hurt us over the years. ex-best friends, ex-boyfriends, ex-boys, ex-friends... and even some who still have friendship... but choose to keep it at distance. this was for us. i credit much of this to her as well. it's funny, i never felt better then watching a pile of burnt wet letters being thrown into the trash knowing i destroyed them. this is for forever...

I can't quite tell whether this is a happy poem or an angry poem. Maybe a mix of both. High school boys, ha. And love is a four-letter word. Ironically, it is. Love is a four letter word.. like "joke" is.

this is for every girl who's ever had her heart broken

Ha. What about me?
I did notice a couple allusions already. Even though I've only known you a short time. For instance, the fries. All in all, I'm not sure what to make of it, I guess. I can't quite tell what the emotion is, whether it's bitter or.. just reminiscent. Hmm. But it's truth.
And that's what matters.
