Footnote: Brief Meditation Upon Death

[after John 12,  Sirach 43, 1 Corinthians 15]

(for Patriciajj, postpoems' finest poet)

Flesh begins to die

at birth---in the process to

release the readied

soul into the Cosmos, the
Heaven that glorifies stars.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Patriciajj's poems helped to make the fourth line of this Tanka possible.  I urge all who read this comment to read her poems---the cosmic aspect of her poetry will expand, and resonate within, your soul.

You sculpted our ultimate

You sculpted our ultimate mortal destiny and granted us unshakable hope with just a few words, just the right words. No small thing.

"The Heaven that glorifies stars." A ladder to infinity. Breathtaking.

Thank you kindly for the dedication on this work of art.

There is no one else, not

There is no one else, not even Vergil or Stevens, to whom the dedication could have been made.  Your poems made this poem possible; a foregone conclusion before I even put the poem's first line to words.  Thank you so much for your effect on my work.
