In the Midst of Tranquility

I am in between

You and I

Apart as can be

And somehow

You're as next to me

As you've always been

As you always seem to be

Here I am

I'm listening

To what you have to say to me

Even if it's nothing

I'm as still as can be

It's obvious

I'm thinking

I'm reaching, believing

Another's words and suggestion

But I stop

I can see

From forty-three feet

That there's nothing I can give you

Nothing that could add to your world

Poetry and words that tumble through support

Promises and meaning that always fall short

Here I am

I'm still not crying

I will not be

And you may stop to think

What we had, more then once

I wish it'd come back and repair itself

Wishing's too weak for me

Because stars fade eventually

Stalling, helplessly

I'm all that you could've wanted

But that was then

I'm as still as stone for you

But I learn to flee when you come near

You know, I don't know what it is

About you

That draws me near

Time after time

You could rob me of all pride

Stab a spike through my skull

And if still alive

I'd be stupid enough to crawl back to you

And ask for another chance that I'm bound to waste

Three hours later.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I want to get rid of this one, but I can't. Not because of what it's about, but because it just sounds way too damn good.
