Anything You Want

Folder:
1999

You can have anything you want;

The world is at your fingertips.

All you have to do do get what you want

Is walk in with a wink of your eye and a sway of your hips.

You can do anything you want;

Just find the right people, and pay their prices.

I'm sure they'll be eager to do what you want,

Just as long as you don't confess to their secret vices.

I've seen you come and go, looking like a queen,

Thinking that you're the greatest thing anybody's ever seen.

Well, let me tell you something, baby; life's not all just fun and games,

Because the Devil has a thousand faces and a million names...

You can be anything you want,

You can dress up like the Devil in angel's clothes;

You can talk to anyone and say anything you want,

But the Devil doesn't need to hear what he already knows.

You can go anywhere you choose,

Just as long as you don't leave your master key behind.

Paris, London, Milan; you just can't lose,

Because you'll never know what you will do or find.

Some say you're God's gift to men;

Some say you're the Devil in disguise.

Well, I don't care just what you've done or been;

Just listen before you give me those Bette Davis eyes.

You've used and abused everyone, that much is true;

They'll steal your crown away eventually,

And then the ones you've stolen from will come for you:

What goes around comes around, you just wait and see.

I've seen you come and go, looking like a queen,

Thinking that you're the greatest thing anybody's ever seen.

Well, let me tell you something, honey; life's not all just fun and games,

Because the Devil has a thousand faces and a million names...

But I know you well enough, and that's not going to stop you from doing anything you want....

your writing style reminds me a lot of my own style of writing in some of my poetry. i really enjoyed the queen, devil/angel motif displayed in your verses... you held the metaphors together very well and it was a really pleasant read - flowed pretty smoothly but saying it out loud would sound much better than what it sounded like in my head. good write :o)

WOW, What a poem, And yet so true to life... it's ashame isn't it, how some people use what they have to get what they want. it's not love anymore...
Good work.
