That Garbage Barge, A Riverboat Song

That garbage barge is a dented, rusted scowl,

and the smell from it makes all the atmosphere foul:

and this is much more than mere insinutation:

just take a whiff, and your own inhalation

will give you plenty of proof and evidence

(and not at all a pleasant experience).

It floats behind us, not needing to make

the least effort---merely drifting on our wake.

The malevolent odor is always hovering---

rancid, offensive, inappropriate and vile;

and from its loads, maggots are busy uncovering

themselves to dance about and flash a smile.

And Thurston Kleinseight Goiter's captaincy

is revealed as maritime travesty.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Remembrance of a dinner cruise (decades ago) on a major River; the garbage barge that seemed to constantly follow our riverboat created a rather unpleaant ambience.
