Pulling the Heart

Folder:
slightly old poems

When I was born they found a magnet

Right inside my heart

Doctors were confused

And said I’d die if they took it apart.

Years passed quickly

And as I grew

I felt that magnet pulling me

And it led me to you

I couldn’t stay away

I would hold onto you

They say opposites attract

So that’s what we do

When we are apart

I look up to the sky

I see your face in the moon

And then wish I could fly

This is the same moon

That our ancestors saw

Jesus used to look up at it

Even he was struck in awe

I knew that I loved you

When  you shared your dreams

You said you didn’t want to bore me

With impossible things

Hold my hand

And I’ll hold yours

Let’s walk through the sand

And swim the crystal shores

You said that our love

Was worth every tear

If we jump together

We’ll erase every fear

Why do I find it so hard

To look you in the eye?

I’m afraid that if we get too close

The magnet in me will die

No chain can hold us down

Tonight we will fly

No water will see me drown

Until my heart is ready to die
