Someone save temptation

Love comes slowly, a song at a time, simple questions, “do you have siblings?”… “where were you born?”, in the rasp growing in your voice, the way I feel it vibrate in your lungs through the ground beneath our backs, the accidental moments when our shoulders touch, when your fingers hit mine on the guitar, love comes softly, like the way you speak when you are shy, my face gently laughing into your shoulder over words I have now forgotten, the smell of bike grease and human attraction, the way you lean into me as if hugging my smile in acceptance, the small exchange of eye contact, red cheeks, looking away, love comes in time, moments at a picnic table, across from one another filling the void between us with words and tight tummies, the jump from poetry to painting, a four minute walk to my apartment, the time it takes tea to brew, crossed legs on the floor “isn’t that always how it goes?”… “I like you, you are awesome…okay maybe not so awesome…I HATE YOU I NEVER WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN”… laughter, love comes loudly, “that’s how you open it!?!”… a skirt hanger in a friends hand and sincere shock upon my face, joy upon yours, screaming giggles as the world moves in circles so fast we cling to one another, “okay I am done”… you fall off and I laugh more, love comes slowly, with each turn of the tire swing, each smile in your sea foam eyes, from the grass stains under my thumb nails to the pen pressed against this page, love comes when it goes in fluid motion like my hair letting down around my shoulders, does it smell this sweet when I hug you goodbye? Can you hold me closer without confining me? Because love comes when we think it is just friendship knocking on our door, and I have been hurt before, still love comes….
