White House

The fruits in our garden will all be the sweetest,

Dangling

And

Dropping

From

The

Vines.

To make sure our neighbors won't think us elitist

We'll blur useless

Dividing

Lines.

Their children will have a safe retreat.

Their dogs will learn they can find a treat.

Our mailman can ask for an icy drink

When the sun beats down with his summer wink.

We'll show up to meetings and raise our voice.

We'll vote in elections, exercise choice.

What a thing, to think in terms of "us"

And wave at the kids on the school bus.

How fortunate to look at each other

And realize we'll never want another.

When night starts to fall and it's only you and me

Satisfaction and pride will be our guarantee -

Just two folks on the corner in that white house

Cast in perfect solace, quiet as a mouse.
