HAPPY ENDING

Folder:
CHAD

I'll always remember our first date;

At the movies,

In the dark,

Sharing an armrest.

I wanted so badly to touch your hand,

Or put my arm around you,

But I couldn't find my nerve.

But just feeling your shoulder pressed against mine,

And occasionally ignoring the film,

In favor of watching the soft glow of the screen

Kiss your face

Made me feel so many things at once...

Some happy, some sad,

Some good and some bad.

Comedic,

Dramatic,

Romantic

And Tragic.

Like a B-Movie where

The plot is confusing

And all of the dialogue

Is lame,

Or some Musical where

People burst into song,

Yet the song they're all singing's

Exactly the same.

Ironic,

Iconic,

Cinematic

Theatrics.

Nothing makes sense,

Yet makes perfect sense,

And everything seems

To just fall into place.

It almost seems scripted

For us to meet like this.

Are we two small actors

On a gigantic stage?

Or are we the stars

Of our own private movie,

Playing on screens

In each other's eyes;

Making the script up

As we go?

What happens next,

We still don't know.

But when the credits start rolling,

And the House Lights come on,

And everything's been heard and seen,

Will I find

My Happy Ending

Or just a blank white screen?

I liked this poem. Kind of an overused idea but it still felt original to me. I'll be sure to read some of your other stuff. I hope you found your happy ending.
