WRONG WAY

They say that if the world

Seems marching out of step,

Then maybe you should stop

And look at your own feet.

But when I tried to do so,

I wound up walking down

The wrong way

On a one-way street.

So I am lost now,

With no one left to find me,

And I don't know even WHO I am,

Let alone WHERE.

But all I really do know

Is I've left the world behind me,

So even if I wanted to,

I could never go back there.

It is getting late now,

And the lights are getting dim,

And the shadows all remind me

Of loneliness and pain.

And my aching heart is racing,

And my air is getting thin,

As I realize I'll never see

The light of another day.

So as darkness falls around me,

I think back to better days.

But it is much too late now

To try to turn this back around.

So I'll embrace the memories

Of a life I used to know,

And rest my weary head

On a stone upon the ground.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This poem could be perceived as either dying, running away,or just losing touch with yourself and the world, but it exprsses the loneliness and confusion we all feel from time to time.
