Once More (part III)

Folder:
A Fallen Hero

A scream rang out in the darkness of the night
The scream broke the clouds and pierced the skies
On a cloud resting above a sweet paradise
The scream is heard and a hero stands to fight

“Silly knight,” the angel speaks softly
“Away, I know you will spring
Back to the wretched and the world of the undying
To save another from her demonic binding”

“My lady,” I say to my angel, fear in her eyes
“I go to prevent the pain that’s contrived
To the world of the dead and the undying
To break from the curses, the spells that are binding
I am no more able, than you are, you see
To hide from the truth, of who I am to be
Forgive me, my love, but the call has been made
I must return, there is someone to save”

“Go then,” she says to me, “Save the night”
“Reveal the darkness, and shine out the light
I will be here, as always I am
When you return from this mission at hand”

With those words, and a strength in my soul
I fall to the ground, to the tortures untold
Into the darkness, back into the fray
Another demon has come to play
Through the blackest forest and into the dirt
It’s time I stopped lagging, and set to my work

In the recesses of this pitiful world
Back through those gates to the cries of a girl
I fight through the demons amassed once again
The race of these creatures, seems to have no end
I once more embrace this hilt born of jade
And cut through these demons, with a flick of this blade
For a war with no ending, on just another night
I fight through the hoard for another to find

“Stupid fool,” the demons chimes
“Back again? I told you she’d keep me inside
You cannot destroy me as long as she’s alive
For I am still constant, always in her mind
You cannot beat me, I will not die
You’ll never release her, because she is mine”

I speak not a word, as his last guard falls
I search for the scream, to answer its call
This demon, the one I already felled
Maybe he’s right, it’s just her own inner hell
But still I’m not swayed, and never will be
When demons arise, I put them to sleep

“Have you nothing to say,” the demon goads
“How can you destroy the thing that she holds?
How can you break without destroying her soul?
What will you do when you see what I’ve told?
You have found me again, and she is the one
You thought you saved, when you thought I was gone”

“Be silent, you foul, wretched beast
I do not need her to let go of your greed
Even without her, once more you will cede
To the blade in my hand, and once more feel defeat
Keep coming back, and I’ll do the same
Each and every time she clings to your pain
A fight is not over until the enemy dies
And in the return I’ll be back to fight
So speak your treachery, tell me your lies
I am a warrior, you I despise”

Enough with this banter, the candor must stifle
I will not be swayed by this bickerer’s trifle
I must be swift, I cannot stride slow
And keep my own wits, as I parry and sidle
This battle will end, with his blood on my blade
This demon’s death is my quest on this day

“Help me, someone,” a whimper chimes in

My heart skips a beat by her own voiced weakness
This battle will end with her freedom again
Because no one deserves keeping torture within

My attention stands fast, my resolve firm and true
The demon strikes first, as my feet start to move
I swing and I sway in a dance with this beast
I offer no glimmer I will ever retreat
This demon will taste his own misery
From the sting of my blade and the taste of defeat

“You cannot win. Why can’t you see?
She will never let go of me
This battle is futile. It cannot be won
Because from her mind I will never be gone”

“And with each time you reprise
I will strike you down to the floor
Until inside she does realize
She’s not alone anymore”

With my final words I aim my hands high
Swing my sword low and here his final cry
Once more this beast falls to ash on the floor
I will not falter to save her once more
I feel my heart beating, so rapid inside
When the agony breaks through from the sound of her cries

“It is you,” when her eyes land on mine
“I thought you were gone when you died last time”

“Warriors never die,” I assure as I strive
To break open the cage she’s been trapped inside

”You’re always saving me,” she softly smiles
“You are my hero, my own shining knight”

“I am no hero, my dear child,”
I pull her from the cage of her mind
“I am nothing more than a warrior inside
I cannot stay my hand when demons reside
And each time you let him back inside
I will be here to destroy him in kind”

”I cannot control it, these things in my mind
I wish I could stop it, but he’s always inside
How can you stop what is a part of me”

“By coming back whenever he won’t leave you be”

Back up to the land, beneath the sunlit sky
I lead her again, to return her lost pride
To save her again from her darkness inside
To cast her broken soul back into the light

She smiles at me sweetly, a spark in her eyes
“Must you now leave me, my heroic knight?”

I nod as I feel the life drain from me
“You are once more safe, go and be free”

“I wish you would stay, to keep him at bay
Because I know he’ll be back one day
With you here I know I can change
I can finally let him just fade away”

“I’m afraid I cannot,” I brush a tear from her cheek
“Death has already claimed its hold on me
Only for a glimpse in time
Can I return to stand and fight
Fear not, for I’m always in the sky
Whenever you need, I am there at your side
So go now and live, make the most of your life
And if he comes back, know I won’t be far behind”

Once more I fell down from grace
To save this girl from her own inner pain
I wish I could stay to make sure she stays safe
But I already have an angel who tirelessly waits

I feel my last breath as it shudders through me
Then to the ground I fall the life force draining
Darkness settles into shadows in my eyes
The last thing I see is that girl start to cry
I feel her arms wrap around me
Holding me close, I can feel her heart beat
Then with my last I choke on the air
Back to the skies, I belong up there

“I think you won her over,” my angel smiles
“Who would not be smitten by your warrior style
No matter how many times you set her free
She’ll let him back in now, just for a chance to see
You return to save her from his torturous means
You’ve created a monster by saving her dreams
But, alas, there is no change to be seen
My dearest love, a hero you will always be”

Then may your wings

be always powdered in dust
So you can soar, with your spirits always up

...glad I could help. I'll try my best to keep it up.

A Dead Hero?

Is she then the angel of death speaking? Is the lady rescued the same one? Is (she) he the hero cursed like the Mariner in Rime of the Ancient to repeat the tale. Or is it a Gilgamesh battle, mythical hero locked in battle eternally with mythical demon(s)? I see Titans. I imagine Perseus and Odysseus and Thor and Odin. A real fight scene is hoped for eventually - yeah I know - too Pop-y ~~A~~

The demon

is the demon trapped inside the head of the woman...
In "Last Measure" originally inspired by Ashes and her own inner demon Twisted...
The story just kinda grew from there and became something different...
The demon became a metaphor for those who take advantage of others, and the ones who fall under their spell.
The hero, who died in the first piece, returns to save the trapped souls when they scream out to be saved.
Sevina is the original woman...who also died in the first piece.
The hero died trying to save her...
