Last Great Measure of Devotion (part I) (ashes made me post it)

Folder:
A Fallen Hero

I was traveling along
Ambling through the night
I traveled so long
And from the road I was tired
So tired of riding
So tired of hiding
So tired of fighting
I rested on the fountain
A slumber in my mind
The water cascading down and
Gave in to the lullaby

As I sat upon my perch
My heart suddenly lurched
From a cry in the night
A scream from the sky

I rose onto my aching feet
Turned to find the somber soul
Saw fire in the tower glean
Burning bright against the stone

Before I could take a step
A cloud blotted out the flames
As I inhaled a long, deep breath
My lungs now full of ashes ached
My mind a blur, my soul bereft
To find the source of all that pain
Into the town I leapt

I crashed the gate into that world
The guardsmen lain in ashes swirled
My mind un-swayed, my heart unfurled
The demons lost, the monsters curled
I chased the path, the wind in a whirl
Leading to that screaming girl
Into the palace on my quest
The stairs descent, the hall to the left
Into a prison, a dungeon hold
Filled with cold, dark, hardened souls
And to the corridor on the right
Ending at a stairway’s climb
Into a room, so bare and cold
The fire smolders, the embers glow
And set right there on a shelf alight
A crystal stone of cinder in my sight
I reach for the magic that glows deep inside
When from the shadows, demons take flight
There in the room, I stand and I fight
Succumbed to the demon’s blade in my side
As the blood pooled out filling my eyes
I fell to the floor, gave my last to this life
Gave in to the darkness invading the night

There in that darkness, a beacon of light
Pervading the shadows, engulfing my sight
The voice of an angel, pierced into my mind
Spoke words so softly, said “Welcome dear knight
“Come into the beauty, leave that old world behind”

She was there in a vision, so sweet to my eyes
In hers I was bare, no secrets to hide

I was tempted, but reserved, to the offer she gave
To run or to follow her into that place
I shuttered, and stumbled, and backed up a step
Then she smiled so slightly, nodded and left
I stood in the darkness, she’d taken the light
Was this really the ending, is this how I die

I fell to one knee, took a weak, shallow breath
And into that darkness, I screamed at myself
“You fool,” I scolded, “You gave up yourself
To dive into hell, when you just should have left”

So blinding it was, the return of the light
Out stepped the angel, such a beautiful sight
She gazed down upon me, a longing in her eyes
Asked me ever so quietly, “Was it worth your life”
An honest answer is all I could find

“I simply don’t know,” I gasped in reply

“For your courage, dear warrior, come into my light
Allow me to guide you into true paradise”

Still reserved, less trusting and unsure
What would paradise really want me for
I coughed up the ashes, still gripping my lungs
And searched for the words, to speak from my tongue

“Why would paradise welcome someone like me?
I don’t feel deserving, I just feel defeat”

“My dearest warrior, you know not what you say
I am the cinder you just coughed away
You gave your own life, knowing nothing of me
You fought for what’s right, in your heart, don’t you see
That your last act in life was to save little ole me
And for that I welcome you into my world”

So this was the scream, this was the girl

I let go of everything that stood in the way
And followed that angel back into her light
I gave up my life, for a soul I could save
In the end it was she, who saved me from the night

Ah,

yes I remember this.
^.^

I remember you were so upset,
because you lost some of it right?
but in the end the re-make was very very well done.

ROC=The magician.

His magic are within the words.
They dance across the page with life.

Still not happy about that

but in the end, the rewrite was worth it. This story you inspired was too powerful to give up on, and now it has so many new chapters.
And it's not done yet.

Well,

I am sure that you will capture the essence once more.
Weird, because I was actually thinking of "The Brier Rose" recently.
I kind of want to continue it.
Maybe when I can get around to it than that inspiration may come back.

Perhaps

"Once More" will offer a little inspiration.

Death

brings rise to a hero and this is not the end, but just the beginning. The saga continues.

Glad you love it so.

Novel quality

Add some dialogue and submit as a proposed novel - unique topic (the hero being hero-rescued) - we need that. Love those blade weilding women (not girls, never girls) smile ~~A~~
