Modern Day Martyrs

Your heart is partly frozen

An icicle hangs from your soul

The fire that normally burns within

Is snuffed out in the snow

Cold are they eyes

That use to bare an amber flame

Cold are the hands that

Took upon all the blame

You stand a shell before me

As if the world a new

Filled with steel emotion

No light shining through

Under the starry night

That use to hold such wonder

All I can do is sit here

Myself alone to ponder

Had it been me to take the fall

To take the rap to take the ball

To run the gauntlet row on row

To be the one to trudge through the snow

But thoughts can’t cure wounds

Nor can an apology stop the bleeding

A tender hand upon a shoulder

Can’t stop internal weeping

The world never knows the fate

Of those that work that much harder

For these days they choose to ignore

The lonely modern day martyr

I love that for an odd reason I can't put my finger on. Yay, nice to see something new. Good job
