Human Beauty

I stand before you, a human,

An idea wrapped in blood and bone,

A mortal shell so easily broken.

I am limitless.

I am divine, a supreme thought that reigns over all it touches.

I am fragile,

Easily crushed and mangled.

But my words, my mind, my very soul,

They will last for an eternity,

Among the writings and in the minds of others whom I have touched,

And in the ideas of those that I have never known, or been.

Immortality is an uncertain state attained most often by those who

Do not seek it,

Do not want it,

Do not care for it,

For their realms are ever expanding,

A playground of forward direction, horizonless.

And so here I stand,

Imploring you not to ignore the cry of the fallen,

To listen to the voice found in every spirit,

That which makes us as we are

Human,

Transient and changing with every moment,

Never stilling,

Never stopping.

Learn what I have learned,

See with eyes not your own,

Wear another's body, a different face.

But I?

I stand here not only a human,

But as a woman.

I am a daughter, a sister, a lover, a mother.

I am the gentle breeze and the hurricane both.

I am a Queen, resplendant in her silken glory

As I stand amid the trash in the alleyways,

As I stretch my hand out to help another rise.

I am grace personified.

And you cannot buy my spirit,

Cannot claim the little soul that was born in me and grew,

And you knew this from the moment we met.

It is knowledge passed down by those who came before,

Those who paved the way,

Saying,

"We!

We are strong.

We are beautiful.

We are not waek and we shall not be used!

Our spirits,

Our words,

Our minds,

They are ours,

And ours alone!

But you may look at them if we give you permission."

And we do.

So look now, and see for yourself

That true beauty is more than mere skin,

More than a frame wrapped and wracked with

So-called imperfections,

Because this is who - and what - we are.

"...you can not buy my spirit..."

I read and read and find jewels among pearls, little bits of diamond, shards of ruby, jade. - This declaration is worthy of a Nation's Declaration of Freedom - I love this line, it has been a part of me (unknowingly) for my life entire. Magnificent work! ~allets~
