The Lost Battle

I had to tell

A three year old boy

That his mother wasn't coming home today.

My cousin,

She of the long golden locks,

Lost her battle against cancer this morning.

For two arduous years

She fought valiently.

Her son was her pride and joy.

He will grow up now

Without her, hearing from family

How passionately she loved him, but I fear

It's not enough.

It's never enough.

So if you love someone,

Tell them that constantly.

Don't let them go.

Saying Goodbye

Is where I actually explored this particular incident. At the time I wrote this one, I couldn't bring myself to speak with much clarity about it. It was too painful at the time.
