Iraqi Dreams

IRAQI DREAMS

a racing heart greets me
when I awake.
is it barely remembered, fading dreams
or the sharpening clarity that
humanity is running out of time
that faces this new day tension?
surreal images follow me,
like the folding clocks
found dangling from naked trees
while walking along Dali’s
landscape dream.
or is it the clear picture seen
of the Iraqi child
shredded by washington bullits,
carried by a father’s screams.
her arms dangling
lifeless,
like floating death
passing slowly on the Euphrates.

a racing heart greets me
to sharpening clarity-
humanity is running out of time.
