This is more than just bittersweet, although the title is so very appropriate. This poem is haunted---by emotions both experienced and unexperienced; and one of the most succint summaries of what a ghost represents, poetically, is presented in the last two lines. I have been reading ghost stories since about 1966 (yes, I am ancient), and I have never read a literary definition of a ghost, or a haunting, as precise and moving as those last two lines. And, I am very sure, I will remember those lines any time in the future that I read a ghost story. This poem is really, really brilliant!
