"Light the Flame Within"

"Light the Flame  Within"

(Salt Lake City Winter Olympics 2002)

       (12/04/01-02/08/02)

In the aftermath of the tragedy of  09/11/01.

In the midst of the war against terror.

A great happening unveiled.

The truth of goodness and strength united.

The initial flame ignited at it's place of birth.

A symbol of worldwide peace and unity.

I watched as they gathered together

for their last instructions before their

momentous moment.

They came from everywhere, now

residing in the State they represent.

Strangers becoming instant friends.

Support runners by their side.

Lining the streets are loved ones

mingled in the crowd of onlookers.

beaming with cheer and pride.

Strangers leaving their workplace

to cheer them on as each accomplished

their section of the run.

The relay was a pass-it-on.

When #1 met #2, lit the flame.

thus ending their relay...

#2-#3 and so forth.

As each was lit by the oncoming torch,

the prior torch was diminished.

Individually they boarded the  Van

that followed the route to the

end of their segment,

rooting each other on in the process.

They carried the touch high and

with great pride

The flame will make it's way from onset

to place of final destination, where

upon arrival, they will...

"Light the Flame Within"  the

master cauldron, thus beginning

The Winter Olympics 2002

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by the Olympic Torch Relay in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. 12/08/01
Surrounded by the Ft. Lauderdale Firedept. Paramedics, the symbol of one of our everyday heroes was an undescribable thrill.

Wow! An amazing piece of work there. A great way to capture the emotion of the Olympics. I really hope you can pen one down for the upcoming Olympics in Athens! With your kind of writing power, I am sure you will produce a smash hit. Keep writing.

Dear Linda, I came across your name reading one of Nicolette’s poems. I thought I would have a quick peep to say hallo. Oh apples, it is an hour later and I am still sitting on your lazy-boy, drinking coffee. Woman, you are inspiring! I had better say good night now, my husband has been calling me three times already. Please do not shut the door when I come knocking tomorrow night.

Sunny South African wishes

Inspirational... You put the reader in the moment. As it was done a thousand years ago... ...Perhaps before television when men transmitt the events of the world,(their world) around camp fires. The shaman stood and performs the rite the "news cast" through the tubes of poerty. This poetry reaches out from the inside and bloom like a holograph upon the ears and arrange the cones inside the eyes and the molocules in the brain which holds the audience mesmerized and still do, as cartoons do on a quite sunday morning. This poem transmitts and takes you to that place; "The lighting of the flame" I there. This effect makes this is Great Poem.

Great poem Linda, I feel honored that I was able to contribute in assisting abritelite in painting this poem. I believe you have done a great job of capturing the American Spirit quite eloquently. BraveHawk
