"Life Utopian"

by Jeph Johnson

perhaps the end
is the start
for shattered dreams
and broken hearts
to find a new
purposeful plan
for a life Utopian.
maybe the way
to brighten day
is to pretend night
has gone away
and walk in light
with my eyes closed
in the dark
writing prose and poetry
about the reasons why
my rhymes
climb
high
into the sky.
the more perfect
my ideal becomes
I find, it seems,
I'm farther from
the farthest reach
of her embrace
yet only here
I can see her face
so clear she seems
not as a dream
when my eyes close
is when she's seen.
into depths
so dark and void
epiphany
has been destroyed
while the epitome persists
I go on making
charts and lists
and graph life
scientifically
but nothing seems
specifically pertaining
to me
but her.
I ask questions
I cannot utter
that stand tall
in my mind
as I fall
through space and time.
