Women's Appraisal

Karyn Indursky and Dove

Shall I compare labels to woman's worth?

For her value is priceless and loving.

Our bodies are made to give Child Birth

and our breast milk to nurture their coming

But men gaze upon us as sex objects

and the government controlling our choice

Our rights as woman is a subject

to be heard with our deciding voice

Struggling for respect and compassion

when we are nurturing our children and friends

in modern times we may be old fashion

but we demand respect, no need to pretend

So long as feminity is here

you shall hold women close to hearts dearly.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by watching a show, "hardball." It's a show where they discuss political issues. It inspired me address some issues women face and a sonnet transpired with the aide of Dove. Dove is a lovely poetress who also cares about women's rights, the treatment we get, and an inspiration to stand up for what you believe in.

thank you

thank you. i put a lot of time and thought into this as did dove. we face a lot of issues as women and it's liberating to take a stand on what you belive in. sometimes, as far as we've gotten with women's lib we're still facing some of the same issues, but when we speak up and stick together changes get made, we become a support system, and a resolution takes place. Hugs.

I totally agree! It shows

I totally agree! It shows that you two worked hard on it! It's amazing!

What I don't get is why it's still looked down upon for a girl to want to ask guys out! I think if we want to go out with someone, we should be able to go ahead and tell them!

Love the poem abunch!

Shades Of Gray

We want equality, but we get it shades of gray. We can vote, make doctor appointments, work, and various things that we weren't always allowed to. Women had to fight hard to get us there and I respect them for it. They had to fight to get us the blessings of writing and sharing. Yet, when it comes to dating and other areas there aren't always black and whites, but shades of gray. I don't think it'll be resolved over night, but as long as women continue to speak up, take a stand, and believe in making a difference we'll see more. In any case, if you enjoyed this poem, and have thought about women's issues please check out ThisIsMe789's poem, http://www.postpoems.org/authors/thisisme789/poem/978218#comment-425694.

That's very true! We owe just

That's very true! We owe just about everything to those women! I agree about the resolving of dating. I think that EVENTUALLY we'll be able ask out a guy without getting strange looks, or be seen as aggressive!
