Time Traveler

My journey began in 1946,
WW II was a recent memory.
Then another conflict in 1950,
creating three more years of war.
That decade spawned the cold war,
as well as the communist witch hunts
of a nut job that should have never
been elected to the US Senate.
Rock and Roll became the popular tunes,
listened to by all my juvenile peers.

The 60’s brought the Beatles,
and an entire “Britsh Invasion” as it was called.
Stones rolling in along with the five of Dave Clark,
The Kinks, and the Pacemakers of Jerry.
A president killed as he rode in Dallas,
by a lone gunman. Or was it more?
Another War in Vietnam building to a torid mess,
escalated by the American War Machine,
to end in shambles and our eventual retreat.
Marriage, a new Bride and a bright future ahead,
giving  hope to all of us Baby Boomers as we were called.

“Flower Power” bloomed in the 70’s,
along with fashions that should have been burned.
My family now growing with two sons born,
houses bought and sold, and a career off to a start.

The 1980’s bought the world into the computer age,
allowing everyday folk to put one on their desks.
CD’s and Walkman’s became the rage,
starting the end of vinyl records and transitor radio’s.
The cold war fell along with the wall,
ushering in the beginning of the 90’s.

The Gulf War came and went with a president
that put on the breaks before he was done.
I saw the Soviet Union collapse, the year of Waco,
the absurdity of O.J., the bombing of Oklahoma City
and Olympic Park, cloned sheep, as well as
children gunned down in Columbine.

The millennium ended without the world’s computers
shutting down the planet like an EM pulse.
MP’3 killed the CD’s, record stores died,
pirated music became the nightmare of music producers.
Terror attacked the great city as the towers fell,
and more war to occupy our thoughts.

Our children now with families of their own,
retirement to soothe my stress from years of work.
Now I look into the second decade of this new millennium,
with Doctor’s watching my health
and 40 plus years of marriage.
Thus I am here still voyaging on a linear timeline,
‘till it comes to an end for me on this plane.
The future unclear and foggy,
as it should be for all of us
who travel through time.
