5 Classic Haiku Verses

Folder:
Haiku

The sun's summer heat

Radiates all the world's life

With love and warmth

Autumn winds are cool

Late in the fall season

Get ready for snow

What then will you do

When life is at its end

When it's only life's summer

Crawl into the sack

Pulling up the warm covers

On a winter night

Spring is now here

With early cool days in May

Life is about it

Author's Notes/Comments:

My first crack at writing traditional Haiku with the 5-7-5 syllable rule and a seasonal reference.

Haiku is, today, a 17-syllable verse form consisting of three metrical units of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.   Each Haiku must contain a kigo, a season word, which indicate in which season the Haiku is set. For example, cherry blossoms indicate spring, snow indicate winter, and mosquitoes indicate summer, but the season word isn't always that obvious.
