On A Marriage Bed Kept Sacred

As I can press your tender skin into the palm of my hand
So that I may lead you toward the precious life we've planned
Walk with you into the house which is now ours
Where we may dream up loving thoughts to wile away the hours
I may never have to say goodnight and leave you at your door
Walking further and further away as you become distant and obscure
Now I'll be the one to switch off the house lights when the day ends
Clasp your hand as up the stairs to our bed we shall ascend
Lie there and feel your weight pressing down on the mattress
And never long for the years of yearning and sadness
Feel your tiny arms pull me tightly in an embrace
Look down on your face nestled in deeply in the pillowcase

And even in the darkest night when your silhouette is undetected
Your lovely smell hangs on the breeze as our union is cemented
And as light slowly rides up the length of sheets concealing
Your face and it's complexities the daylight is revealing
We cross the finished wooden floor to prod the bedroom door
On the threshold of a day where lovers' delights lie in store
To take you from your parents I made a sincere pact
And now the weight of my oath has replaced the vague abstract
As I lift your lovely light form from the floor and into my arms
My grip as well as my life are filling with your sublime charms
Pressing your head toward mine and breathing in your aroma
Nuzzling my nose in your hair which forms your corona

Author's Notes/Comments:

This was my 'Dan Fogelberg' moment. It's about two people getting married. And, yes, I unintentionally quoted Eric Carmen in one line. But I like Dan and Eric so I'm cool with that.
