Cheapskate

Though my stockings need mending

Not a penny will I be spending

My debts never run deep or steep

Cuz I'm so very cheap, cheap, cheap

I only buy what I need

Save money, yes indeed

Hit all the thrift stores in town

Cuz the prices are always down

Buy more for less and you will find

You'll really have some peace of mind

Spend what you have to...save the rest

Put yourself to the test

written long ago but close to home...never made much money so never spent much either...only way to make ends meet...oh yeah should mention it was inspired by Tom Lehrer..what ever happend to him? We had a show at the Apollo Theater in Chicago where I worked for ages starting at age 19...at least 14 yrs on and off mostly on and mostly there doing something...box office, housemanaging, concessions, coatcheck, whatever they needed help with...backstage on a few shows one of which was Tomfoolery based on Tom Lehrer's songs...so this was definitely inspired by his style...if you ever check him out you will know what I mean...I dunno if the Doctor Demento show is still on the radio somewhere anymore but they used to play lots of Tom Lehrer songs...In Chicago, it used to be on late night radio like midnight or something...if you know if that show is still around please let me know cuz I miss it much...they have lots of silly songs that I absolutely love...lots of Weird Al,Tom Lehrer, too many to mention...check out Rhino records for Dr Demento's Dementia Royale...I have the LP..that is how long ago that was...yikes...I am feeling ancient history now...scary thought...

A very good write with a philosophy I share. I work too hard for my little money to not be thrifty.
