NO DIGNITY

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

staged spite
shadowed hooligans
singing backwards
underneath an aging overpass
shop keeper sweeping up
the broken glass of his dreams
into a dust pan and out of his life
once the trash men cometh
misery mars the streets
summer for the poor children
is a hunger summons
so little to really do
and even less to eat
gangs like snakes
troll the alley ways
residents act natural
too scared to complain
the priests at the mission
offer spiritual solace and peace
such churches absorb the never ending
blood stains on humanity
one bullet wound at a time
poverty and ignorance is but a war
on the family
morality in many cases lays dying
one generation away from the abyss
of what we use to call the American dream
for at such notion even mercy  herself
shakes her fist
a stray bullet leaves behind in its path
'No Dignity'
just blood, fear, mayhem and death...............

Author's Notes/Comments:

I watch too many documentaries about life in America's big cities. I think this poem shows that. I may need to join a 12 step program or something anyway, what I watched wholey affected me. This poem was the end result................

At least you're facing what

At least you're facing what so many ignore. Better to use tv to educate than just hypnotize.  A little bit of fact facing and thought could solve more than knowing nothing and listening to most media these days. Yes...the poem makes a clear picture we all have been ignoring our sacrifices we all must make for freedom....and not just on the battlefield.

...and he asked her, "do you write poetry? Because I feel as if I am the ink that flows from your quill."

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "

Respected Madam PWPoet S

Respected Madam PWPoet S.The onslaught of the gory and ghastly into the living room and bedrooms are a menace. They affect the psyche(the softer ones)

and (maybe) incite people to commit real crimes.Who can censor our minds? The idiot-box happens to a major source of entertainment this side of the marsh.

Many homes have more than one telly for different sexes & ages in the same family.Almost a polarisation of viewers. And what with the consumerist advertisements luring with semi-naked ladies and underwear clad bare-bodied men.. some famous movie-stars too! Out here on  marsh-five there is an explosive volume of viewers of all ages. Its either the TV or the PC.No time for thoughts .......... Maybe we do like to watch such bloodstained  stuff

Not everything we watch is bad..............

Many times I learn something I didn't otherwise know. I get a view into a life I've never lived in an area I'll likely never visit. There are lessons for many in vastly different circumstances. Poverty is Poverty whether it is in a ghetto in south Boston, a tenament house in Lower east London or a slum in some third world country. I've seen many documentaries that have taught me many things but yes you do see some shocking sights but we learn from everything that is shown to us or revealed to us. Since I likely will not be able to walk through a ghetto, slum or tenament district such well filmed and thought out documentaries some award winners in their field give me the next best thing to have a glimpse of that experience. Everything whether perceived as good or bad is welcome as it is experiences and we come here to do what? but to experience life to learn and love. I have no qualms about television one man's crap is another man's favorite show. Its subjective. Some choose not to even watch documentaries or television that is their choice and sure they skip a lot of the crap out of choice but I feel they too miss many of the programs that have something worthwhile to teach them. I skip commericals so I really don't concern myself about underwear ads. I know how and where to buy my own underwear I don't need others trying to influence me where I should buy mine lol. I wholeheartedly though thank you for your input. I am glad my poem inspired you to construct a conversation in paragraph with me.I always encourage and welcome such jestures from others. Sincerely,  M.............
