A GOOD LIFE SEVERED

Folder:
JOURNAL # 41

seduction's scepter
frivolous fundamentals
take your seat
at the table of twisted invitation
hard core believers
whatever the cause
talk of vengeance
with an unnatural ease
hardscrabble lives
amid turbulent times
even the possibility of
an education
such dark ages rob
angry young men already
with no means
to restore their dignity
follow foul and infuriating men
who preach their distortment
of a before respectable text
morality police men
on dirt bikes with scraggly beards
by public mask
riot inciters, child rapists
and sodomites some of them
flooding the back alleys with
knives and whips
stirring up burning angers
into a frenzy of religious
intolerance and fear
to their followers
the dark ages beckon
it's as if they say
step back with us into the twelfth century
where ignorance breeds further poverty
and conflict
where men can murder more and more
crudely perceived infidels
and women can be treated little
better than second class servants
sexual property, brood mares
and slaves
this is the life they offer you
deception of truth
bankruptcy of spirit
and worst of all
despair for a better tomorrow
sadly in short

Author's Notes/Comments:

Was recalling a PBS segment I watched not too long ago about the disease to every day life in places like Afghanistan and the tribal areas just across the border in Pakistan and how the religious zealots destroy the lives of the people by pushing their punishing form of Sharia law and the like. It was a terribly difficult segment to watch being a woman and all. This poem was born of that sad though quite eye opening independent piece.

Respected Madam

Respected Madam. You are much more well-read than me.Your piece made me recollect a famous poem's line/phrase "what Man has made of Man..." Sadly, I neither  remember the poem's name nor its author. I just hope against hope that things will change for the better and good sense will dawn.(Me and my big mouth)

ps...and i always love reading anything that exposes corruption that most are too wimpy to want to try and make sense of...not that the above makes sense, but we should be aware, and see it for what it is...greed, lust for power, corruption.

...and he asked her, "do you write poetry? Because I feel as if I am the ink that flows from your quill."

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "
