CLOSER TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH #

JOURNAL # 41

certainly
scamper you shall
down the next available
burning highway
but bearing down you will always be
on that clutch of regret
a wasted scavenger of feelings pure
and moments worthy
a has been bit player
strumming the broken chords
of his own love scorned lullaby
a tragic figure taking on
testaments he cannot live down
nor up to
so he walks off
in the quiet in between
more uncertain than
his days of prior romance
and bravado
he is the night that slithers unseen
through towns and meadows
leaving at dawn before
love awakens from her dream
that cavorting coward Lothario
ravaging the many layers of
beautiful
with his hellish intensity
a bankrupt soul
grifting out his next lesion
follow that?
a wiser woman
gladly would not
she would stand thankful
as such desertion
would easily be expected
from an aimless
collection of human parts
she foolishly thought
momentarily
was a real man
but she was wrong
adamant in keeping with
a harbored notion
that a fool is indeed
born every minute
to fulfill his every shallow whim
he tells his pathetic story
in his own eyes
over and over again
as he picks up his momentum
while those of us of the smarter brides
enjoy his fallacy to our fullest
advantage
allowing him to leave
believing as he will
that the pull of his unsavory hobbies
has taken him away
he never at all realizing
he was but a learning tool
to strengthen yet another
woman into a far stronger woman
once again
banishing yet another
shallow liver such as yourself
to the wondering paths leading
'Closer To The Center Of The Earth'
Dante' would be most proud............

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by fellow Post poems poet soulive2213 Justin Thibodeau's poem
'Next Town Over (A Thousand Miles Away) this is my reply to it. I responded as if I were the woman he is speaking to in this poem. Is fun to do to take on the identity of another say a fictional character and speak for them. I enjoy that many times.

Thanks so much.........

I so enjoy coming upon a really good poem and replying poetically to it. I can't always do that. I never force the words but sometimes they are just there and I write a response in reply. Glad someone else enjoyed it. Once again, sincerest thanks, Melissa
