Fuggy and Cashie. A Christmas Tale

~Fuggy and Cashie. A Christmas Tale~

It was early December when a truck full of Christmas trees pulled into the vacant lot at the corner of Emerald Street and Main. The man who drove the truck unloaded the trees and sorted them by size. When he was through he noticed one of them was tall, but thin, with very short green needles on its branches.

"This is Fuggy, the ugliest Christmas tree I ever saw." said the man to himself, then tossed Fuggy back onto the truck. On his way home that evening he stopped by a place where beautiful roses are grown, and fed Fuggy through a machine that ground him into thousands of tiny, Fuggy, chips,  which he scattered over the ground around the roses.

Cashie was a beautiful Christmas tree. Her boughs were thick and full with long, dark, green pine needles, and when a very well-dressed family bought her from the lot she was sure she would be the star of their nice, big, home during the holidays.

Oh, how saddened she was when the family began to cover her lovely limbs with electric lights, tinsel, glass bulbs, and fake snow. And when they placed a lighted gold and white star with little silver angels around it upon her topmost branch her heart was broken. All she could do was stand in her corner while feeling uncomfortable with the weight of all the ornaments that covered her. She was so disappointed when visitors came to the home and complimented the decorations instead of her stately figure.

The people had a Christmas party one evening. Uncle Jim and  Aunt Debbie decided to be silly and have a sofa pillow fight and accidently knocked Cashie over. Uncle Jim and Aunt Debbie laughed. Some of the other people at the party groaned and shouted, while the children cried. Cashie felt  humiliated as the man of the house stood her back up and vacuumed broken bulbs and tinsel off the carpet.

Late on Christmas Eve a man came from the shadows and placed packages wrapped in colorful paper and bows around the base of Cashie. On Christmas morning the people of the house found the packages and delighted in opening them and admired the things they took from them. They paid no attention at all to Cashie.

A few days after Christmas the people of the house took all the decorations off of Cashie, then gave her to a man who took her to a machine that turned her into a thousand tiny Cashie chips, then spread her over the ground with Fuggy, the ugly Christmas tree, in a place where beautiful roses grow.

A Christmas Tale Worth The Telling

Because anyone or thing is deemed useless does not mean it lacks value or facility - To be ignored says nothing about existence and purpose. I enjoyed - very profound telling this ~Lady A~

Thanks, Lady A

I'm still working on this. Hopefully I'll get it done before Christmas.

Send the story out

By next year, this story should hold a nice place in a magzine or collection of Christmas stories. As well as you write, I know you know how to do that. Bravo. Love the name, "Cash"- ie and fate as the same for all of us no matter our believed status or beauty. Like Walking In The Air (from the Snowman) the Brittish classic that I listen to for hours during the season, the telling is haunting.

Thanks, Stella

"Cashie" is actually sort of a metaphor for the Miley Cyrus' and other young, beautiful "stars" of the world who often die young after being enamored with all the glitz and glam, etc.
