The Silence of the Owls

~The Silence of the Owls~

The barn owl's flight isn't silent so that its prey can't hear it coming. It's silent so that the owl can continue to hear its prey as it approaches it without hesitation. The lifespan of the barn owl is short, so it doesn't waste time being sneaky.  They have nothing in common with politicians, who usually have very long lifespans which allows them to use a lot of time being sneaky. A gathering of owls is known as a "congress,"  but since those gatherings rarely, if ever occur, (I have never seen one), I'm not going to use-up any of my lifetime trying to make sense of the term.

I did not know that a gathering of owls was a congress

i do object to whichever self appointed namer decided

a gathering of crows would be a murder of crows

i cannot warm to predator birds
