Love Or Lack Of It

You Don't Really Want To Know

You ask me if I'm happy, and I can't say the words

To make you feel at ease again and smile.

If you were here beside me to know me as I am,

You wouldn't need to ask me all the while.

You don't really want to know, and I don't want to tell

How hard it is to stay here all alone.

Your money and prestige don't mean a thing to me.

You are all I wanted all along.

The clothes and things you buy me won't hold me close at night.

The cars and fancy parties don't have arms.

You ask me if I'm happy but you don't want to know.

I'll never hurt or cause you sad alarm.

You don't really want to know the answer.  This I see

Whenever you just turn away and leave.

Living here without your love is surely killing me.

A mere reflection of the love I need.
