The Fourth Of July

I wonder if those rebels

who thumbed a nose at kings,

Had any comprehension how

ideas sprout new wings.

They fought to live in freedom and

embraced the vision there,

Declaring Independence in a

Philadelphia square.

Oh! That shot heard round the world

still rings these ages past,

To show the world that freedom reigns!

In America it lasts.

I know we have our problems.

I know there's turmoil here.

But no where else do men have rights

to dissent without fear.

If Jefferson and Franklin

could see this place they dreamed,

I think a smile would cross each face

as tears coursed down and streamed.

I LOVE my country and I'm proud

to call this great land home.

There's no where like it on the earth

as openly I roam.

Some think that we have lost our stride

since the terrorists' attacks,

But they don't know that we've faced worse,

and Patriotism's back.

I heard that over seven million

flags have sold since then,

I hope they all fly proud today

in freedom's holy wind.

Absolutely! Mr. Bin Laden, where ever you are, thank you. You have done something that politicians in this country have been trying to do for years and that is bring this country together, and as heinous as it was, you accomplished it. You have reawoken patriotism and national pride. You have brought together two political parties that rather than join, would have died. Factions across the nation laid down their differences and have taken up arms in a common cause to bring justice to you and your kind. You have awakened a slumbering giant for what you didn't realize is that a squabble in a family will remain within the family, but when an outsider pokes their nose in it, the whole family will come together and turn on the intruder. Now it is you Mr. Bin Laden and your cronies that will pay the price of meddling where you don't belong.

Sorry Jessica. This was an outstanding poem. You did all the things right. I guess you could say...it got me going.

Hugs and Peace
