Running From My Shadow

The dark figure

on the pavement

follows me.

Distorted version of me,

you tower above

although crawling

by my feet.

One step forward,

two paces back.

I try to escape you,

but you always

catch up to me.

You bring me down

to your level,

you outline me

with night’s ink.

Mr. Hyde, I could hide

from you all I want,

but you will still haunt me

until the sunlight.

Rewrite 2012

The dark figure
on the pavement
follows me.

Distorted version of me,
you tower above
although crawling
at my feet.

One step forward,
two paces back.

I try to escape you,
but you always
catch up to me.

You bring me down
to your level,
you outline me
with night’s ink.

Mr. Hyde, I could hide
from you all I want,
but you will still haunt me
until the sunlight.
