The New Year

Here is the New Year
brought to life
with blasts of fire
and bursts of light.

So much hope contained
in a single night.

But when the smoke clears
and the darkness comes,
my resolve is gone.

Here is the New Year
with the same ol' me,
wishing for something
more than a new calendar.

The turning of a page,
but not loose-leaf.

A new identity,
a fresh start
into a future of everything
I've been missing.
