Keeping Your Enemies Closer Then Me

Folder:
Romanticism

as the day busts into the room,
she winces
then catches herself, hoping
i missed it
at some newscast she turned on herself,
she's haunted
she catches up with an old ghost
behind her

she runs upstairs..
though still sitting there...

there's spinters in your lips
your already chapped, cracked skin
another bleeding kiss
on an old wood chest in your life

another day bursts into the room,
she flinches
i have to be careful how i surprise her

she laughs at my wit, how it turns on her..but..
it's word roulette
i've pulled the trigger and she's lost
more then once

she stares through me..
angrily, though this exit wound's forward and to the right

there's spinters in your lips
your already chapped, cracked skin
another bleeding kiss
on an old wood chest in your life

there's bruises in that box
but now you're beating yourself up
in the attic of yourself
where the heat doesn't rise

there's places you can go
that i can't
you say don't go there, knowing
i'll respect
just the same i have to find where you are
somehow
i just have to pull you out
of traffic

inside your head..
you're just sitting there knowing the cars can hit anyone who goes to this place

there's spinters in your lips
your already chapped, cracked skin
another bleeding kiss
on an old wood chest in your life

there's bruises in that box
but now you're beating yourself up
in the attic of yourself
where the heat doesn't rise

there's sun and snow outside
but only cold inside
there's kids and snowmen out there
but you'll stay in the attic
you'll stay in your own memories
making them new ones,

making them new ones

who's the abuser now?
and who's beating you down?
it's not without mercy
and it's not to be mean
i just want you to finally see

there's sun and snow outside
but only cold inside
there's kids and snowmen out there
but you'll stay in the attic
you'll stay in your own memories
making them new ones,

making them new ones

all the memories in your life
nightmares that begin once upon a time
the greatest fear's of the unknown
you don't know how or why they come or go

but they never leave when you hold them close
protecting yourself, keeping ghosts closest
i don't agree
please see that you won't find peace

keeping your enemies closer then me

keeping your enemies closer then me
