2014 (Really?)

2014
I now live in
The era
Of dog eat dog
Rat eat rat
We tell our
Children
To do what is right
What is fair
But that is not
What as adults
We do
We fight
Eye for an eye
A life for a life
That is why

We still
Have
The death
Penalty
But it scares
Away
No one
And for the
Innocent
It makes
Things
So much worse
I close my eyes
At night
And wish
Upon a star
That we as a
Society
Weren't
So blind
Then maybe
We would all see
The pain
We ourselves
Put on
You and me
Guilty
Or not
And finally
Make
The right
Decision
For once

    The question of capital

The question of capital punishment for criminals of very criminalistic nature, should be challenged I think. Does this law mean that victims aren't ever left to survive? It is a difficult question, we have no capital punishment in the UK but it is difficult to see from crime stastics whether it is the answer it's meant to be. Maybe life imprisonment is enough. A very thought provoking poem with many sides to the arguement.
