15 Minute Break

Watching the rain

fall in street light mist.

The pavement slick

with the mirrored veil.

My reflection in the streets

shows no remorse...offers no comfort.

The air is still for only moments

and the cooling chill embraces me.

I know I am alive, though I cannot feel.

I seek out the solace here

yet, nothing transfers to me.

Just the endless thoughts

that break over the halcyon streams of rain.

I long to feel that peace.

But I feel nothing except the cold wind

as it passes once more.

My flesh rises as the cold engulfs me.

I stare out to the sky.

The time too early--the heavens too black.

The darkness envelopes me

and I finally find comfort.

For now I know,

I am as void as the starless night.
